Afrokilla at the Movement Gallery

Grassroots Chicago had the pleasure of starting off the new year with an exhibit by Keith Smith, aka Afrokilla, at the Movement Gallery. Afrokilla is a Chicago local and this was his first solo show in his city! Congrats!

The theme of the show was based around the experiences of a young artist skateboarding through the city of Chicago. Afrokilla brought the city inside the storefront by incorporating outside pieces like caution cones, street signs, and power lines which had shoes hanging from them.

Afrokilla has been involved in a lot of projects and has made many connections in his career. This was obvious to see as the party was packed with many friends showing love. The gallery was definitely the fullest we have ever seen!

Once again we had our friends Lagunitas Brewing Company, Passion House Coffee, and Essentia Water provide libations for the party. We had music from DJ Skoli, Milly Mango and Just Chris.

The Afrokilla exhibit will be on display until January 27.

The next exhibit for the Movement Gallery will start on February 4.
"This Me Now" is a group show featuring 12 different artists (including Afrokilla) and they will be creating self portraits for this exhibit. Opening party is on the 4th of February and will be from 6PM - 10PM.
